From Screen to Stitch: Getting Your Embroidery Designs to Your Machine with Creativate™

You've just finished designing a beautiful embroidery in your Creativate software — now what? Getting that design safely saved and onto your machine is easier than you think. Here's everything you need to know.

Understanding Working Files

When you create an embroidery in Creativate, elements like Lettering, SuperDesigns, Frames, and Embellishments (Ribbon, Yarn, String of Beads) start out as open, editable objects. In the Embroidery module, you'll recognize these by their green corner handles — a sign that properties can still be adjusted without any loss of quality.

Each module uses its own working file format:

  • Embroidery module — saves as .vp4
  • Digitizing / Create — saves as .edo
  • Cucitrice a croce — saves as .krz

To save your working file, go to File → Save or Save As (Windows), or use the Actions menu / File menu (Mac).

Tip: Always save a working file before finalizing your design. That way, you can reopen it later to swap out names, change embellishments, or tweak anything — with zero loss of quality.

Finalizing and Transferring Your Design

Once your design is ready to stitch, you have a few options for getting it to your machine.

Option 1: Export (All Machines)

Export converts your open design elements into a finalized embroidery file that any machine can read. It supports multiple file formats to cover virtually all embroidery machine brands.

  • Windows: File tab or Quick Access toolbar
  • Mac: Actions button in the main toolbar, or File menu

After exporting save or copy the file to a USB stick and plug it into your machine. This is the most universal method and works even without an internet connection.

For detailed export steps, open the Help system and search for Export.

Option 2: Send to Creativate (Wi-Fi Connected Machines)

If you own a Creativate wi-fi compatible machine, you can send designs wirelessly — no USB required. The Send to Creativate menu gives you several transfer options:

  • Finestre: Upper right corner of the Menu Bar

  • Mac: Creativate dropdown menu at the left of the main toolbar

Before You Send — Checklist

Make sure all of the following are active:

  1. Your embroidery machine is powered on and connected to the internet
  2. Your machine is logged into your Creativate account
  3. Your computer is connected to the internet
  4. Your computer is logged into your Creativate account via Configure
  5. Creativate Connect is running (Windows taskbar / Mac title bar)
  6. Creativate Cloud Sync is active

Send to Creativate Cloud

Not ready to stitch right now? Send your design to the Creativate Cloud and pull it up later directly from your machine's file menu — whenever you're ready.

Send Directly to Your Machine

When you want to stitch right away, send the design straight to your machine's screen. It appears instantly, ready to go — without being saved to the Cloud or the machine's internal storage.

Tip: You can also send designs to other computers logged into your account — perfect if you work across both Mac and Windows.

No Software? No Problem
