Create Mirrored Cross Stitch Patterns with the Multiply Feature in Creativate Cross Stitcher
The Cross Stitcher module — included in the Creativate Elite membership — gives you powerful tools for designing detailed, beautiful cross stitch embroideries. Whether you prefer the guided Wizards and Assistants or the hands-on manual tools, Cross Stitcher has something for every level.
One of its most exciting features is Multiply — a tool that automatically mirrors and repeats your cross stitch designs to create stunning symmetrical patterns that look complex but are surprisingly quick to build.
Enabling Multiply
To get started, select Use Multiply (Windows and Mac). Once enabled, choose your preferred reflection style before using the Create, Letter, or Pattern tabs to add crosses.
Tip: You can also copy an existing section of crosses, then enable Use Multiply and paste — a great shortcut for working with designs you've already started.
Multiply Styles
Reflect Across
Mirrors crosses along the vertical center, creating perfect left-to-right symmetry.
Örnek:
- Pattern Fill, Category Mixed, Trellis 1 (a directional pattern fill).

On the Create tab, select Fill at Pattern Fill, Outline at No Outline, Shape at Shape 3.
- Place and adjust the shape to half the grid vertically. Right-click to set the shape, preview the Multiply reflection, then right-click again to finalize.
Reflect Down
Mirrors crosses along the horizontal center, creating top-to-bottom symmetry.
Example: Letters tab, Fixed Font, Bettina Cross UC 15. Enter words on two lines in the Letters box with center alignment. Right-click to apply, drag the select box into position, then right-click to finalize the Multiply.
Reflect Across and Down
Mirrors crosses along both the vertical and horizontal center simultaneously — symmetric in all four directions.
Example: Create tab, Shape 83. Adjust the shape box position, right-click to finalize the shape, then right-click to finalize the Multiply.
Rotate 4-Way
Repeats crosses four times, rotating 90° with each rotation around the center point.
Example: Create tab, Shape 83. Adjust the shape box position, right-click to finalize the shape, then right-click to finalize the Multiply.
Reflect 8-Way
Mirrors crosses eight times around the center. Designs reflect in pairs, with each pair repeated across four quadrants — perfect for intricate, kaleidoscopic results.
Example: Create tab, Cross Fill in red, Backstitch Outline in violet, Shape 72. Adjust the shape box size and position, right-click to finalize the shape, then right-click to finalize the Multiply.
Offsetting the Center Point
By default, Multiply works from the vertical and horizontal center of the design area. Place Center lets you move that center point to a different location — great for creating offset or asymmetric multiplication effects. Reset Center restores it to the default position.
Bonus Tip — Cross Stitcher Design Properties
Found under the View tab (Windows) or Design tab (Mac), Cross Stitcher Design Properties let you fine-tune:
- Cross size and hoop settings
- Design area cross count
- How many times the thread crosses in each stitch

The direction of the top thread
Experimenting with these settings — particularly the thread cross count and direction — is a wonderful way to give your embroideries a more organic, hand-worked appearance.
