Thread Velvet Embroidery

Several layers of thread create soft and smooth velvet effects with your embroidery. Thread Velvet embroideries have multiple blocks of satin stitches placed on top of each other to create a 3D effect.

This look was created using the PFAFF® creative expression™ 750 IDT™ is the perfect tool to get your checkered fabric to match perfectly. Adding the Thread Velvet™ embroideries adds an exclusive finish.

You can use any coat pattern of your choice to achieve a similar result. Just follow the pattern instructions and add your favorite embroideries.

Creating the Velvet Effect

  1. When the embroidery is finished, use a seam ripper with a blade and carefully cut down the center of the satin stitching in the Thread Velvet areas.
  2. Slice through all thread layers, being careful not to cut the fabric underneath.
  3. The cut threads will “bloom” creating the velvet effect. The blooming process can take several minutes.

Secure

  1. Apply fabric glue to the wrong side of the stitched area. This will help protect the cut threads from pulling out.

Tip: You can find step-by-step instructions on all different embroidery techniques in the Learning Center on your machine. They are divided into different categories and subcategories. From basic embroidery to cutwork, felting and other specialty techniques.
