What You Need

  • Circular Attachment
  • Sewing machine
  • Extension or quilter’s table (optional, but helpful)
  • Fabric
  • Stabilizer
  • Fabric marking pen
  • Heart template
  • Thread (your desired color)

How to Stitch a Heart Using the Template

1. Position the Template

Place the heart template on your fabric and mark fabric through the template holes.

2. Mark Your Dots

Choose your desired heart size.
Use your fabric marker to mark all six dots for that size.

  • Mark dots A and B — these are the pivot points where the pin will
  • You may also draw a light line connecting the bottom dots if you want a clear “V” guideline.

Machine Setup

3. Prepare Your Machine

  • Attach the Circular Attachment

  • Add an extension table if available

  • Select your desired stitch

  • Turn on Needle Down to help with pivoting

4. Set the Radius

Adjust the Circular Attachment to the size matching your marked dots.
Place the pin through dot A, securing fabric and stabilizer.

Always use stabilizer — it prevents distortion and keeps stitches smooth.

Sewing the Heart

5. Stitch the First Curve

Begin stitching at the center point between dots A and B.
Sew from the center → around dot A → to the side mark just past A
(This creates the first 180° curve of the heart.)

6. Stitch the Bottom V

  • Remove the pin

  • Stitch a straight line to the bottom mark

  • Pivot, then stitch along the drawn line to create the V at the bottom

  • Stop at the side dot near mark B

7. Stitch the Second Curve

Insert the pin into dot B.
Stitch a 180° arc back to the center point where you started.

You can sew the entire heart in one continuous stitching run—no need to trim threads between the A and B sides.

Your Heart Is Complete!

8. Embellish, Layer, and Get Creative

Try:

  • Making a row of interlocking hearts
