How to Create a Quilted Block with Appliqué in Creativate Embroidery Digitizing Software
This lesson shows you how to combine two techniques — appliqué and quilted background stitching — into a single embroidery design using the Creativate digitizing tools. Once you understand the workflow, it's easy to swap out the appliqué shape or change the quilting pattern to create endless variations.
What You'll Need
- Creativate Extra or Elite (Windows or Mac)
- Embroidery hoop — 260mm × 200mm
- Appliqué fabric
- Stabilisateur
Instructions
Part 1 — Create the Appliqué Shape
- Open Creativate software, choose Blank Canvas, and set the Hoop Size to 260 × 200mm.

- Aller à Create → Digitizing. In the dialog box, choose Create Express Border et cliquez sur Suivant.

- Cliquez Create New Picture — the Creativate Draw & Paint module will open.

- Cliquez Insérer and select the irregular heart shape (Shape 73)Cliquez sur Insert Shape.

- Use the handles to drag and distort the shape to your liking.

- Close the Draw & Paint window using the X in the top right corner. You'll return automatically to the Express Design Wizard. Click Suivant.

- Cliquez Suivant through the following two screens.
- On the size screen, select Enter Design Size, set the width to 85mm, and click Suivant.
- Cliquez Finish.

- Click on the stitches in the Film Strip — the outline points will become visible. You can move, add, or delete points to refine the shape.
Tip: Deleting excess points makes it easier to achieve smooth, rounded shapes. Any visible background image underneath the outline will not appear in the finished embroidery. The finished size should be approximately 135 × 85mm.
- Close the Digitizing module. The heart appliqué will now appear in the Embroidery module.

Part 2 — Copy the Appliqué
- Go to the Home tab and click Copy. The appliqué design will be saved to the Clipboard, visible in the top right corner — ready to paste into the Quilt Block Wizard.

Part 3 — Create the Quilted Background
- Aller à la page Onglet Créer et cliquez sur Quilt Block. When the dialog box opens, select Filled Quilt Block — No Inner EmbroideryCliquez sur Suivant.
- Select Shape 2 (Rectangle), set the A side to 120mm and the B side to 190mmCliquez sur Suivant.
- Cliquez Paste to insert the appliqué from the clipboard. Click Suivant.

- Set the Margin to 0mmCliquez sur Suivant.

- Select Curved Crosshatch Fill.

- Cliquez Options. In the dialog box, set the Gap to 10mm, le stitch length to 2.5mm, and enable the Triple Stitch option. Click OK, then Finish.

Part 4 — Clean Up and Finalize the Stitch Order
- In the Film Strip, right-click the first image (the heart) and select Supprimer. Then right-click the quilt embroidery in the Film Strip and select Ungroup. The design will separate into two parts — the appliqué first, followed by the quilting.

-
Reorder the stitching sequence so the background quilting stitches out first. Click the appliqué in the Film Strip, then use the down arrow to move it below the quilting.

- Aller à la page Home tab, click Combine → Combine All. Then click on the second color and change it slightly — this prevents the colors from merging together if you apply Color Sort later.
Part 5 — Save and Export
- Save your working file, then export the design in your preferred format — for example, .vp3.
