SuperDesigns: How to Refresh, Redesign & Reimagine!
Did you know that Digitizing, included with the CREATIVATE™ Elite membership (mySewnet™ Elite Software), gives you powerful tools to insert and customize system SuperDesigns? With just a few clicks, you can give your favorite designs a complete makeover, then save them as .edo working files or export them as a machine-ready embroidery format.
Let’s dive into how you can reimagine SuperDesigns and spark new creativity!
What Are SuperDesigns?
SuperDesigns are pre-digitized, highly flexible design elements found inside the Embroidery software. They’re available across all CREATIVATE™ software tiers:
- CREATIVATE™ Essential (mySewnet™ Essential Software; formerly Silver)
- CREATIVATE™ Extra (mySewnet™ Extra Software; formerly Gold)
- CREATIVATE™ Elite (mySewnet™ Elite Software; formerly Platinum)
What makes these elements so “super”?
- They’re organized by themes (animals, florals, seasonal, etc.)
- You can resize them without losing stitch quality
- You can modify properties before the design becomes stitch data
- Their green corner handles indicate they’re still editable—not yet fixed as stitches
But sometimes, you want to do even more like changing how an appliqué is stitched or adding decorative textures the original design didn’t include. That’s where Digitizing levels up your creative power.
Using SuperDesigns Inside Digitizing
Digitizing gives you deeper control over every layer and stitch object within a SuperDesign. You can convert appliqué areas into fills, swap stitch types, add overlays, or completely redesign the structure of the artwork.
How to Insert a SuperDesign Into Digitizing
Open Digitizing:
- Windows: From the program folder
- Mac: From Launchpad
Then:

Change It Up: Easy Ways to Refresh a SuperDesign
Let’s use an appliqué example—a sweet cat from the Animals 1 SuperDesign Set.

Add Decorative Overlays
- Select an appliqué object (like the cat’s face appliqué).
- Choose Break Apart to separate the stitch steps.
- Copy and paste the final running stitch (the tack-down step).
- Convert the new object from a line to a Fill Type with no outline.
- Experiment with a decorative fill such as:
- Group: Universal
- Category: Hand Stitches 1
- Pattern: 23
This creates a textured, stylish overlay perfectly aligned with the original shape.
Transform Appliqué Into Fill Stitch Designs
Want to create embroidered blocks that pair beautifully with appliqué blocks? Just change an appliqué area into a fill:
- Right click the appliqué object
- Open Properties
- Go to the Appliqué tab
- Change Appliqué → None
- Select a specialty Fill Type
- Set the outline → No Line
-
Example:
Appliqué Food 2 – Pumpkin
- Switch the pumpkin appliqué → None
- Apply Shape Fill, Shape 50, Density 20
- Move the Fill Pattern Origin for a more artistic effect
The result is a fresh new stitched style with rich visual impact.
