Digitize a Popsicle Appliqué Design - Part 3

In this final lesson, you’ll use the tools inside CREATIVATE™ Elite (mySewnet™ Platinum Software) to arrange the popsicle appliqués you digitized in Lesson 1, add quilting around them, and assemble your placemat Quilt-As-You-Go style.
What You Need
(For one placemat)
- “Popsicle Applique” design from Lesson 1
- No-Show Mesh stabilizer
- White background fabric
- Batting
- Backing fabric
- Three fabric strips (2” × 18”) for borders
- Binding fabric
In the Software
1. Open a Blank Canvas
- Launch mySewnet™ Software
- Choose Blank Canvas
- Hoop Group: Universal
- Hoop Size: 360 × 260 mm
- Orientation: Natural
- Click OK
2. Insert the Popsicle Appliqué
- Go to Insert
- Navigate to your saved “popsicle applique” file
- Bring it into the hoop
3. Duplicate the Design
- Select the popsicle
- Click Duplicate twice
- You should now have three popsicles in the hoop
4. Arrange & Recolor
- Position the popsicles however you like
- Change colors on two popsicles by selecting each one and double-clicking the color in the Design Panel
5. Group, Cut & Prepare for Quilt Block Wizard
- Click Group to group all three popsicles
(Orange handles will appear around the grouped designs) - Click Cut
(They move to the Clipboard)
6. Open the Quilt Block Wizard
- Go to Create → Quilt Block
- Choose Filled Quilt Block
- Choose Inner Embroidery
- Click Next
7. Set the Block Shape & Size
- Shape: Select Shape 2
- Angle: 0°
- Size: A = 360 mm, B = 260 mm
- Uncheck Include a cut line around my Quilt Block
- Click Next
8. Paste Your Popsicles
- Click Paste under Clipboard
- Click Next
9. Set Quilting Margins
- Angle: 0°
- Margin: 2 mm
- Click Next
10. Choose Quilting Style
- Select Stipple
- Click Options
- In the Quick Stipple Fill window:

Style: Curve

Gap: 10

Click Finish
(These are suggested settings—feel free to experiment!)
11. Export Your Design
- Go to File → Export
- Save as “Quilted Popsicle”
- Send the file to your embroidery machine
Assembling the Placemat
(Quilt-As-You-Go)
1. Hoop Foundation Layers
- Hoop No-Show Mesh stabilizer and white background fabric together, centered in the hoop
- Load “Quilted Popsicle” design
- Stitch the popsicle appliqués
2. Add Batting & Backing Before Quilting
When the machine stops before quilting:
- Remove the hoop (do NOT remove fabric from hoop)
- Slide batting and backing under the hoop
- Pin all layers together from the front
(This creates your quilt sandwich) - Return the hoop to the machine
- Stitch the quilting section
3. Trim the Block
- Remove fabric from the hoop
- Trim 1½” outside the quilted area on all four sides
4. Add Top & Bottom Borders
- Place a 2” × 18” strip right side down at the top edge
- Align raw edges
- Stitch with a ¼” seam
- Fold back and press
- Repeat for the bottom strip
5. Add Side Borders

Repeat the same process for the left and right sides
6. Square Up & Bind
- Square up the placemat
- Add your preferred binding to finish
